Manchester Histories Festival (MHF) is a new and ambitious partnership between the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the City Council.
MHF is a biennial event in the Manchester calendar, providing a tribute to the unique heritage of our city.
The Festival has the following aims:
- To bring people together from all communities and backgrounds
- To inspire lasting pride in our city
- To be a celebration
- To show that there are many histories of Manchester
- To develop links between Manchester's educational and cultural institutions
- To develop original educational resources
- To stimulate interest in the Manchester's future through a greater understanding of its past
THE FESTIVAL IS A CELEBRATION
A range of activity will take place across the City, and parts of Greater Manchester, over the ten days involving diverse groups and organisations. The City Council has again made available rooms in the Town Hall for Saturday 3rd March 2012. Open to the general public, a range of activties from talks, exhibitions, film screenings, peformance and tours will create a celebratory atmosphere. Further details of what is on offer will be made available towards the end of 2011. To find out how you can be involved in presenting activties and projects during the festival, please visit our contacts page.
THE FESTIVAL IS FOR EVERYONE
We hope that individuals and groups of all ages and levels of expertise will get involved - from school groups to major museums, from community groups to universities, from history and music buffs to casual visitors wanting to know more about the city.
BEFORE THE FESTIVAL: Education and Research PROJECTS
A wide-ranging series of projects will be organised over the preceding year involving schools, cultural institutions, universities and their students, societies, and local groups.
AFTER THE FESTIVAL: IMPACT AND LEGACY
The long-term goal of MHF is to be internationally outstanding, delivering a large impact for Greater Manchester, in both volume of participants, visitors and media interest. Our website will become a resource for schools, societies, institutions and individuals.
